Personality Contest is a four piece indie rock band from Austin, TX
Their sound is characterized by a sonic wall of psychedelic guitars behind catchy, melodic hooks and vocal melodies by singer & main songwriter, Jake Garza.
Lead axe-woman Jess Bryn provides scorching guitar solos and dreamy-immersive soundscapes, while bassist Kyle Tuten provides groovy McCartney-esque low end. Serving as the glue is drummer Mark Ols, who ties the entire band together with a steady presence, providing a fluid backbone for each moment.
Together, Personality Contest provides a dynamic listening experience, constantly changing shapes and color, sometimes within the span of a single chorus. One moment you’re on a beach and the next you have found the sand has shifted underneath, leaving you in the restless waves of the sea.
Personality Contest explores themes of existential dread, trying to find your place in an uncaring world, and yet still finding ways to enjoy the beautiful moments that make life worth living.
